The Notes is based in the late 90s in high school, so we need to get creative with wardrobe!

Welcome to another blog! Things are getting so close to production days. I was excited to design the wardrobe for the character, Samantha, because I knew I had some old relics hidden inside closets from the 70s, 80s and 90s that I could use to really set the scene in the wardrobe department. I'm not sure how old you are, but lets go back in time and visit some 90s fashion!

Overalls, flannel, bold colors, stripes, big buckles, shirt tucked in, blue jeans for days. And of course, the grunge look. Muted colors, ripped jeans, white tees and dirty shoes. We are going more for the grunge look, but a little more cleaned up. We are also looking to show a late 90s look, which can be really different from the early 90s kind of Saved By The Bell look.

Inside my closet!

This blue track jacket belonged to my best friend in high school(99-03). She wore it for years and I always loved it. Eventually she gave it to me. I believe it was her Dad's in the 80s. I have worn it off and on for years and always kept it because it's such a timeless look. I have gotten so many compliments on this jacket. I'm really excited for this piece to be in the wardrobe.

The soccer jacket belonged to a friend of mine in high school. This one was new around 2002, I'm guessing. Still right within that time period when ADIDAS was so popular. I always loved this jacket. I'm pretty sure my friend decided it was too white and he gifted it to me, being that I am such a lover of all things German. I've only worn this a few times.

If this green shirt looks like it's seen better days to you, then that's because this shirt belonged to my father. I'm estimating it is likely from the late 70s. I have always loved this shirt. It's kind of like a bowling shirt, but 100x cooler. True vintage. I'm not sure if Samantha will end up wearing this. You'll have to wait to find out!

New Pieces

I've been looking through vintage shops all over the place to find wardrobe for this film for months now. One of the biggest issues with that is the pieces often look vintage and if we are making a film based in the 90s, then I don't want the clothes to look like they are old. They should look new. 90s fashion is back like crazy right now! I found these looks right at Wal-Mart. I bought three t-shirts that can go under any of these looks. These pieces will absolutely sell our grunge look. The flannel, the dark track jacket, grungy pullover and of course the faded acid denim jacket.

Samantha's Proof of Concept Look

For the proof of concept video for the film, we used green to compliment Samantha's fire engine red hair, a white t-shirt for accent, and those oh-so timeless Converse Chuck Taylor shoes. Can't forget that LL Bean bag that every Mainer took to school with them since the beginning of time. Ok, maybe not that long.

We are so excited for everyone to see this film! Production is scheduled to start February 15th. Keep an eye out for the third blog where you will get to meet the entire cast!
